Skin Toner

Skin Toner

I have to be honest. I am not a fan of toning.

I feel that skin toner is an extra part of skincare that has been developed simply in order to sell more skin care products. If you have used a non greasy or filmy cleanser and cleansed your skin properly then I don’t understand why you would need to use a skin care product like skin toner?

Steamy towels followed by icy ones can produce amazing results - and it is one less product to irritate your skin. Jo Malone, London skincare specialist is a big fan of getting back to basics and using flannels and I recommend her techniques.

skin tonerHowever, there are exceptions as of course everyone is different. One of my closest friends swears by Crème de la Mer skin toner which she believes has radically improved her appearance and is one of the best skin care products ever. I have to admit, her skin is clearer and she does look ‘fresher’.

Also, on shoots makeup artists often use a skin toner from RMK which really makes your skin tingle and gets you rosy. And, Shu Uemera has a lot of skin toners that do act to ‘calm’ the skin if you have some redness or blotching.

The really scary skin toners are the ones like Clinque which are so skin stripping that you need two or three skin care products to resolve. Even the ones for the most sensitive skins contain liquid and alcohol to skin stripping proportions. Be cautious of any skin care range that requires you to buy everything in their range in order to take effect.

Avene mineral water spray. It replaces the toner and it's awsome

Hi. I have been using Nivea Visage "Deep Pore Control" along with the face wash for about a month now. I have to say it is not exactly life changing, but it does make a difference. I live in a very humid part of France, and the toner noticeably closes pores to keep bacteria out.

I also feel fresh and clean after using my skin toner. My skin regime is fairly rigorous though.

-wash hands
-wash face (wait till dry)
-apply Dalacin T
-apply toner (wait till dry)
-apply Organic Tea Tree Oil & Aloe moisturizer
-wait till dry
-apply make up

So yeah. It takes me a while to get ready in the mornings! ;)

I read your article in the paper about toner. I agree i dont really think it is necessary. Thanks for the advice:)

I was advised by a beautician to always use toner to close the pores after cleansing to reduce the pollution/dust getting in and and causing spots. Then moisteriser acts on top of that as another barrier and a make-up base. Not sure if this is true but it has improved my skin slightly in the few months that I have been using this regime. Great site by the way!

Some toners are good, especially cucumber ones as they feel cooling. But, most do seem to not do a lot. It is as if beauty brands make their cleaners extra thick so they need to be removed:)

I so agree about Toner! I always wondered what the point was. Thanks for your honesty.
